Slow Cooker Honey Sesame Chicken

I saw this recipe on one of my favorite food blogger's website:

After enjoying a bowl of this chicken, I can honestly say DAAAAMN THIS IS DELICIOUS!! ...I wonder how many times she's gotten that one lol.

I think this is one to put in the "good-for-the-whole-family" category because it's simple and there's just some good flavors goin' on. But also, you can omit the red pepper flakes if you think even just a 1/4 tsp would be too spicy for you or any kiddos.

Serves 5-6.

  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/3-1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Green onions, thinly sliced, for garnish
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish
  • Rice for servings (I used white basmati rice, but brown or regular white rice would be good too)

  1. In a medium-large bowl, combine onion, garlic, honey, soy sauce, ketchup, vegetable oil and red pepper.
  2. Season chicken breasts or thighs with salt and pepper, to taste. Place chicken into a slow cooker. Add honey mixture and gently toss to combine. Cover and cook on low heat for 3 hours and 30 minutes or until done. Mine only took like 2.5-3 hours, but just keep an eye on it after about 2.5 hours to see if yours cooks faster too.
  3. Remove chicken from the slow cooker and shred the chicken before returning to the pot with the juices. Cover and keep warm for an additional 30 minutes.
  4. Serve immediately over rice and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds, if desired.
